Judges Sheet Generator

What is it?/What Does it do?

Judging_Sheets_V#.XLSB is an excel based program that generates Judges Sheets used to record scores in Heavy Athletic competitions.

This excel program is basically a print macro.  It driven by both lookup-tables and switches.

NOTE: Switches are cells that controls what is displayed in the  Judge’s Sheets and usually have a yellow background with blue text.

The few ADs who have tried this program have said it can be a very valuable tool.

OVERVIEW

As stated above, this program is pretty much a fancy Excel Print Macro.

  • A print range needs to be set up/defined for each tab that has a printable Judging sheet/display.
  • This gives the user full flexibility. Headers, footers, timestamps, watermarks, layout of score sheets,  ….
  • If you are a novice Excel user, I can help or you can search Youtube videos, to accomplish much of this.

The print maco goes to each sheet that the user desires to be printed and prints that sheet’s print range, which was setup by the user.

The macro is driven by the flight number, which drives everything.

GOALS

The following were/are my goals in creating and refining this spreadsheet.

  • Improve Check In – Checking in athletes, providing t-shirts, collecting registrations, and making sure the waiver is signed is hectic and stressful way to start a day.

Solution:  The Waiver sheet functions as a sign-in sheet.  It contains the T-shirt size as well as whether the thrower has paid.  This program generates a waiver/sign-in sheet for each flight.

  • Reduce Workload of Athletic Team – The paper work is always a burden.  Therefore, stream lining paperwork reduces the burden and stress on all members of the athletic team.

Solution:  I  highly recommend collecting registration using Google forms as the data from a Google Form drops into a Google sheet, which can (easily) be copied and pasted directly into Excel.  When you do this, almost all the information needed is already entered and thus can be used to populate the Judge’s  Sheets.

YOUR AD is NOT A SECRETARY ANYMORE

  • Reduce Workload of Judges – This has always been my goal as Judges are a very giving group of people and anything you can do to do to make their lives easier, makes your life easier!

Solution:  The Judge’s sheets are all filled in and order-of-events are provided through this spreadsheet.

  • Entertain the Crowd – Information provided in registration is rarely available to judges but could be very valuable for entertaining the crowd when an announcer is not around.

Solution:  The judge’s sheets are populated with the throwers hometown, and personal records.  These items can be used to personalize the event to the crowd and allow the judge to hype the crowd when someone is close to breaking their PR.

Additionally, Records are also generated on the Judge’s Sheets that can also be used to entertain and work the crowd.
